The Jewish holiday of Passover celebrates the ancient Israelites’ liberation from slavery (and the humbling of their oppressors.)
Slavery is more than just extracting un-free labor, though. It always has been.
Slavery means depriving people of their human rights to autonomy and dignity.
Slavery means dehumanizing somebody into a commodity to be owned, trafficked and exploited.
Thus, boarding schools of the “troubled teen industry” (TTI) like Diamond Ranch Academy (since rebranded as RAFA Academy) make their money on the backs of vulnerable teens like Taylor Goodridge, whose death was caused by the intentional deprivation of every right she had, including the right to self-preservation.
Nobody has been criminally charged (yet) but documentaries like “the Program: Cons Cults and Kidnapping” are bringing more mainstream attention to the inherent criminality of the troubled teen industry. This is why we need to keep up the pressure.
