Petition updateJustice for Sky, killed by Montreal SPCA Justice pour Sky, tuée par la SPCA de Montréal

AVVA tried to rescue Sky twice, but was refused.

The Montreal SPCA is probably telling the AVVA story backwards.  AVVA was probably willing to take Sky despite his bite history.   AVVA didn’t even get enough time to rescue Sky.  They only found out about Sky last Sunday.  Marie-Joelle Rivard-champagne bonjour! Ceci est un hommage à Sky et non des accusations. Nous avons reçu les informations sur Sky dimanche soir et c’est depuis cette journée que nous tentons de le sauver 😔

AVVA Rescue Adoption stated that they made multiple formal requests to take custody of Sky and transfer him to their care. They expressed deep frustration that the Montreal SPCA did not accept their offer before proceeding with the euthanasia. [1, 2]

Key Points of AVVA’s Stance

Offer of Sanctuary: AVVA confirmed that they had a specialized spot ready for Sky, alongside a professional canine behaviorist who was prepared to evaluate and work with him. [1, 2]

Lack of Response: AVVA and its supporters noted that despite submitting at least two formal requests to take charge of Sky, the Montreal SPCA did not follow through or allow the transfer. [1]

Advocacy Viewpoint: Supporters echoing AVVA's position argued that a bite incident (which occurred when an employee reportedly handled Sky's food bowl) should not have been an automatic "death sentence". They maintained that since Sky was reacting out of stress and resource guarding, he deserved to be handled by an outside organization equipped for complex rehabilitation. [1]
The situation ultimately resulted in a public clash between the public's desire to give Sky a second chance through AVVA, and the SPCA's ultimate determination that Sky's psychological deterioration and bite history posed too high of a public safety risk. [1, 2]
