Dear Supporters,

Thanks to your incredible voices, our petition has officially reached 1,531 signatures! Your support is driving real momentum as we push for critical workplace safety changes in Georgia.

The official draft for LC 52 1131 (Sha'don Gordon's Law), sponsored by Representative Kim Schofield, is finalized. Here is exactly what we are fighting for:

  • Immediate Medical Care / 911: Mandates immediate appropriate aid, prompt on-site medical evaluation, and immediate removal from work duties for serious head injuries.
  • The 1-Hour Notification Rule: Requires employers to contact a worker's emergency contact within 1 hour of a serious incident, regardless of the worker's age.
  • Mandatory Written Logs: Requires employers to provide an official written incident log to the worker or parent within 24 hours.
  • Statewide Enforcement & Accountability: Establishes a Georgia Department of Labor tracking system to monitor repeat violations, levies fines up to $25,000 for willful noncompliance, and explicitly authorizes civil lawsuits for wrongful death caused by an employer's intentional failure to act.

Sha'don was instructed to clean behind a heavy industrial grill, which required him to pull it out. While he was pulling it, the broken, improperly repaired handle snapped, causing him to fall backward and strike his head forcefully against a metal table.

He indicated to management that his head and shoulder were injured, but they did not call 911. Instead, they sent him home and told him "to get rest for a few days." Because he was 18, they said they had no legal obligation to notify me. Left completely unaware of the trauma, Sha'don went home and literally tried to do exactly what the manager told him to do, get rest for a few days. Tragically, because the severe brain trauma was left untreated, it caused a sudden behavioral crisis, and my son died by suicide just four days later.

No other family should ever be left in the dark. Please keep sharing this petition so we can keep building the pressure to get this passed!
