Norfolk District Attorney Gregory P. Connor said the young pit bull, once named Kiya by a previous owner, was passed through several owners via Craigslist, ultimately winding up with Czerkawski. Connor said Czerkawski starved her to skin and bone and is responsible for the five fractures to her skull, seven “crushing injuries” to her spine, broken ribs, bruised right lung, broken femur, dislocated shoulder, damaged eyes and a split tongue.
