There Was No Justice for Oak in Court Today!

The court system failed Oak (aka Miracle) today when the judge sentenced his despicable owner to only five years probation and 300 hours of community service (not around animals). For ten months, animal welfare advocates have written to the court pleading that the maximum sentence be imposed on Dawn Lipford for her abuse, torture and abandonment of Oak—leaving him on the side of the road to die. Oak was found, but his emaciated and tortured body was beyond saving, and he was humanely euthanized.
FL needs to enact laws that reclassify pets as sentient companion animals vs common property (as other states have done); make animal abuse reporting mandatory by veterinary and animal care professionals; strengthen ordinances to allow law enforcement to intervene sooner in cases; and give courts more penalty power for these heinous crimes.
We have to persevere and pick up the mantle in order to see justice done for Oak. Please continue to share the link for this petition across your social media, and in texts and emails to FL residents you know will support change in favor of pet protection in FL. We need 7500+ signatures and have almost 3000.
Florida's pets are depending on good humans to protect them.
