Yesterday, according to media reports, the death sentence of Noura Hussein, a teenager from Sudan sentenced to death for killing her husband who she was forced to marry and she said raped her, has been overturned. Her legal team told CNN that her sentence was replaced with 5 years of imprisonment and a financial penalty of 337K Sudanese Pounds (around 16K Euros, US$18,400 or 14K British Pounds). I want to thank all of you, from all over the world, for supporting Noura and helping her in any way possible. I want to thank especially every single one of you, from all ages, all genders, all colors, all nationalities. I want to thank Humanity for standing up for one Human, one Woman whose rights were taken away. I want to thank all the people who signed the petitions, and the people who messaged, emailed, the sudanese Government, I want to thank all of you for all you did for Noura Hussein. Thank you for signing the petition and making this first victory possible ! Now that, all together, we saved Noura from death penalty, we have to keep the pressure to set her free. The fight is not over yet, as the family of Noura’s husband is still insisting on the death sentence and are planning to appeal.
