Justice for Mickey: Pass Stronger Laws to Stop Cruelty Against Dogs and Animals in India
Justice for Mickey: Pass Stronger Laws to Stop Cruelty Against Dogs and Animals in India
The Issue
We, the undersigned citizens of India, respectfully request the Government of India to take urgent action to stop cruelty against dogs and other animals.
Recently, the alleged killing of a community dog named Mickey / Mikey at Madh Island, Mumbai, has deeply hurt the hearts of animal lovers and compassionate citizens across the country. As per media reports, an FIR has been registered against five persons in connection with the alleged killing of the said community dog. This painful incident has again shown that animals are not safe, even when they are innocent, voiceless and dependent on human kindness.
A dog also feels pain, fear, love and attachment. When a dog is beaten, poisoned, tortured or killed, it suffers helplessly and cannot speak for justice. No living being deserves such cruelty. Such acts are not only against animals, but also against humanity.
At present, many people do not fear the law because punishment for animal cruelty is not strong enough. Because of weak punishment and poor implementation, such incidents are repeated again and again in different parts of India.
Through this petition, we humbly request the Government of India to:
Amend and strengthen the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and related animal welfare laws.
Increase punishment and penalty for killing, poisoning, beating, torturing, abandoning and illegally relocating animals.
Treat serious animal cruelty as a strict criminal offence with proper investigation and prosecution.
Ensure immediate police action and FIR registration in serious cruelty cases.
Create fast-track process for serious animal cruelty cases.
Issue strict directions to all Municipal Corporations, Gram Panchayats, Police Authorities and State Governments for protection of community dogs and stray animals.
Ensure proper sterilization, vaccination, feeding and humane management of stray dogs.
Take action against persons who spread hate or encourage violence against dogs and other animals.
Create awareness in schools, societies and public places regarding compassion and legal protection of animals.
We are not asking for revenge. We are asking for justice. The punishment should be strong enough to make every cruel person understand that animals also feel pain, fear and suffering, and cruelty against them will not be tolerated.
India is a country of compassion, kindness and humanity. Protecting animals is a moral and legal duty. We request the Government to act immediately so that no other innocent dog suffers like Mickey.
Please sign this petition and raise your voice for voiceless animals.
Justice for Mickey. Justice for all animals. Stop animal cruelty in India.
