Justice for Laurelle Mario
The Issue
PETITION FOR JUSTICE AND ACCOUNTABILITY
NO BAIL FOR THE ACCUSED IN THE MURDER OF LAURELLE MARIO
We, the undersigned, call upon the relevant authorities and the courts to give serious consideration to the profound harm and loss caused by the murder of Laurelle Mario.
Laurelle Mario was brutally murdered on 24th of August 2026, and her death has left a family devastated and a community reeling in shock.
Her life cannot be reduced to another case number, another statistic, or another headline that fades with time.
We acknowledge that every accused person is entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. At the same time, we believe that the circumstances surrounding this case demand careful consideration of the interests of justice, the protection of potential witnesses, the integrity of the investigation, and the safety of the community when bail is considered.
We stand with Laurelle's family in demanding a thorough, transparent and lawful process — and to ensure that her case is pursued with the urgency and seriousness it deserves.
The community is deeply concerned that those accused of Laurelle Mario’s murder are known members of the local community.
This is significantbecause people who live within and are known by the community may have established connections with potential witnesses, residents and others who may possess information relevant to this investigation.
We therefore call upon the State to carefully consider whether the accused persons' community connections create any specific risks relating to witness intimidation or influence, interference with evidence, interference with the investigation, or the safety of persons connected to the matter.
Our concern is not to prejudge the outcome of the trial, but to ensure that the safety of witnesses, the integrity of the investigation and the interests of justice are fully protected during these proceedings.
We respectfully call upon the State to oppose bail where the applicable legal requirements are satisfied and the evidence establishes that release would not be in the interests of justice.
