Police Investigation

I’ve had my concerns all along about how the police conducted this “investigation.” I contacted both police departments numerous times over the 7 months they were “investigating” and they completely stone-walled me. They didn’t return my calls or emails. Both police departments interviewed me once and that was it. Midlothian never contacted me again with follow-up questions or to update me on what they were doing. And now, I have confirmation that confirm my fears.
The police never contacted the vets. Of the 5 vets involved with my case, none of them had heard from any police department or investigator. The vets themselves confirm this to me. The police said all along that this case is a “he said she said” and that the vet reports that corroborate every injury I say Mat inflicted on my dogs mean absolutely nothing. The pictures of my dog’s injuries, vet reports, my witness statements, receipts I have confirming the timeline and places we went mean nothing to the police.
Assistant State’s Attorney Jameika Mangum rejected this case and called me “not a credible witness.” She never once spoke to me. The police only spoke to me once. She is basing this off of texts I exchanged with Mathew and claims I am also at fault for my dog’s death. She never reached out to me to ask questions about those messages or why. And if she had, she’d know nothing I said to Mathew was authentic: everything I did and said with him I did to survive.
In their police report, the police said they went to Mathew’s house to investigate his dog Zip since I said he was aggressive and had attacked me and mauled Kirby (again, there are pictures of my wounds and Kirby’s wounds, as well as an analysis of them determining they are dog bite wounds in the necropsy). The police reported that Zip seemed nice and played with him.
The police even spelled my name wrong numerous times throughout the report.
EVERYBODY who sees my case (attorneys, other police officers, the vets involved) are SHOCKED the police didn’t press charges. Do you see why?
Please continue sharing and signing this petition. We need to let the Arlington Heights and Midlothian police and state’s attorneys know that this isn’t going away. They need to do their civic duty to serve and protect us. We need to let them know that I matter. That Kirby and Daisy matter. That victims of crimes matter. Do your duty and arrest Mathew Berry. He is a threat to society and will continue harming others until you do your duty.
