Good Day Everyone,

I pray all is well.

My daughter and I were in attendance for The People's Tribunal on Virginia's Prisons, Jails & Detention Centers this past Saturday, October 7, 2023 at the Richmond Convention Center. We were afforded the opportunity to publicly share information related to Jowell’s abusive experiences that led up to his murder while incarcerated at Red Onion State Prison, Pound, VA a Virginia Department of Correction facility.

The families of incarcerated individuals, Returning Citizens, Organizers, Advocates and Allies present were the most amazing group of people I have ever met. We all courageously and unapologetically shared our horrendous experiences inflicted by evil soulless entities employed at various levels with VADOC.

We also listened to written letters and audio recordings submitted by inmates describing gut wrenching horrific human and civil rights violations they are currently enduring in real time!

All testimonies were shared by those who have been negatively impacted by VADOC. It was truly disgusting to hear the depths of torture these men and women lived or are living through. At one point the stories became redundant. We all were strangers sharing our unique encounters. It became evident rather quickly that our individual experiences were the very SAME experiences, and not unique at all.

This recorded event will serve as a Call To Action charging All Virginia 2023 Candidates with the responsibility of PROVING to this constituent body that they deserve our votes. They will be presented with this live recording so they can hear what we heard. No longer will they be able to hide behind the excuse of “I didn’t know…” We demand that they open up their ears and HEAR TO UNDERSTAND our complaints… lift up their voices and DEMAND accountability… and wield their VOTER GRANTED power to enact legislation that SPECIFICALLY addresses and improves the conditions of those incarcerated behind the diabolical walls of Virginia Department of Correction Facilities and/or accept and manifest alternative means of housing and rehabilitating Virginia’s incarcerated population!!!
