Well we thought today was Jolly’s procedure but it turns out it was the appointment to schedule the procedure. Not quite sure how we both managed to misunderstand that but we did. If that wasn’t frustrating enough when we got to the point where we were finally going to schedule everything we learned his VA referral has expired. Apparently the hospital won’t even schedule the procedure until the referral comes in. So we ask the staff at the doctor’s office if they can just submit a new referral to which they tell us nope we need to call ourselves and ask them to put one in. I explained I’ve never had to do that before and said I wouldn’t even know who to call. At this point I’m trying to hold back the tears and failing miserably because I know Jolly can’t handle many more bumps in the road. They finally gave me a number with the VA. The VA said no the doctor has to put it in so we called over to his primary care and finally found someone who knew what to do. Hopefully the referral is in work and we’ll hear something soon but sheeeesh was this a frustrating, triggering and completely unnecessary experience. The medical system is so broken and I truly don’t know how sick people are ever supposed to be able to heal if it continues like this. It’s hard to keep the faith when at every turn another obstacle arises but I’m trying. Jolly’s not handling the waiting game and overall jackassery very well. If you have been thinking about sending words of encouragement now would be a good time. He needs all the support he can muster.
