Dear Petition Signers and Community Supporters,
Earlier this evening, we attended the Community Conversations meeting with Frederick County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Hummer, the school board chairman, and other board members. We went with hope, seeking answers and demanding transparency regarding the tragic circumstances surrounding Faith Johnson’s passing.
We presented the concerns you helped us articulate, the questions you demanded be answered. However, Dr. Hummer stated that due to an “ongoing investigation,” he could not provide any specific information. He would not even publicly confirm the existence of an investigation, citing the need to protect its integrity.
While we understand the need for due process, we cannot accept a blanket refusal to address the legitimate concerns of our community. We are talking about the life of a child, a student within our public school system, and we deserve transparency.
The school board chairman offered his sincere condolences and expressed his intention to attend Faith’s funeral, which we appreciated. While this gesture was genuine, it does not replace the need for accountability and systemic change.
We are left with a profound sense of frustration and disappointment. We are left with unanswered questions and a continued lack of transparency. We are left with the undeniable truth that our children deserve better.
We will not be silenced.
We will not be deterred.
We will not stop demanding answers.
Here is what we need you to do:
- Continue Sharing the Petition: The strength of our collective voice is our most powerful tool. Share the petition with everyone you know. Let them know that we are fighting for transparency and accountability.
- Contact School Board Members: Reach out to the school board members directly and express your concerns. Demand that they prioritize transparency and provide answers to the community.
- Attend Future Meetings: Stay informed about upcoming school board meetings and community events. Your presence is crucial in demonstrating our unwavering commitment to justice.
- Share Faith’s Story: Keep Faith Johnson’s story alive. Share it on social media, with friends and family, and in any way you can.
Let the world know that we will not rest until we have answers.
Faith Johnson’s life mattered. Her story matters. And we will not let her memory be forgotten.
We will continue to fight for the transparency and accountability that our children deserve.
