We wanted to provide you with an important update regarding the petition you signed in support of the Johnson Family. The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has responded to the Johnson Family's complaint.

Attached to their response was the complaint filed by the Johnson Family, along with a letter addressed to all involved parties, including Superintendent of Frederick Public Schools, Dr. Hummer. The VDOE's Office of Dispute Resolution and Administrative Services (ODRAS) has requested that all parties carefully review the attached documents and provide ODRAS with the requested information within the specified timeframes.

In addition, the VDOE has offered the parties an opportunity to participate in state-sponsored mediation. This is a free, voluntary process facilitated by an impartial, trained mediator to assist parents and school staff in resolving the allegations.

This is a significant step in the process, and we appreciate your continued support. Your signatures have helped bring attention to this important issue. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide you with further updates as they become available.
