Petition updateJustice for EleanorEleanor and the Sub-postmasters Initiative on private prosecutions

Dear All,

Finally, after eleven years, we have an opportunity to plug the loophole in Rape Law that enabled Alexander Economou to lawfully start a Private Prosecution against Eleanor for allegedly lying about the rape allegation she made against him, which was not supported by the police.

This opportunity has come through the current Ministry of Justice review of how private prosecutions should work. This was prompted by the public outcry over the many miscarriages of justice suffered by so many sub-postmasters.

This review is clearly important, but inadequate – it won’t plug this tragic loophole.

If we do nothing, then the likes of Alexander Economou will still be able to continue as before, unhindered. This will be appalling for all women who need to report rape, so we must act to bring in Eleanor’s Law. Please visit Eleanor's Law  and view the short video I provide, and sign the petition.

It is appalling that any man can so easily frustrate the Will of Parliament that granted women life-long anonymity when reporting rape. Moreover, it is perverse that a man can continue to do this using the courts with an unregulated private prosecution – the Courts even allow him to show some spite!

This loophole doesn’t exist in Scotland.

If Eleanor had met Alexander Economou in the Capital of Scotland rather than the Capital of England, Eleanor would still be alive today!

Please sign my new petition to bring in Eleanor’s Law so no other woman has to suffer!

Eleanor's Law

Please share this as widely as possible

I am very grateful for all the support you have shown for this petition. My new petition can plug the loophole that made Eleanor's prosecution possible.

Thanks

David
