After months of searching for my son Geologist Daniel Cornelius Robinson, I have learned a lot. There are many families that are going through and have gone through the same pain that my family and I are enduring.
I also found that people of color have a higher rate of missing family members. People of color often don't get the urgency needed on day one when they first report their loved one missing. In fact, people of color go unknown by most and their case goes unreported in the news media. I have first-hand experience of this truth.
I want to see a change in the way that law enforcement handles initial missing person reports. There should not be a wait of over 12 hours to report a person missing especially when the family knows their loved ones' patterns have been altered. Each case no matter the family's financial status, sex, or race should be handled the same, with the same urgency every time.
The changes need to come from the state. States who have a high missing person rate should have resources designated to handling missing person reports. There should be a department within their department that specializes in these types of cases. A family should not have to beg for help as I have for five months. Though an adult family member has the right to go missing, a concerned family should have the right to verify. There should never be an immediate assumption that the adult missing person wanted to go missing without first assuming they didn't want to go missing.
If a department lacks the resources, they must seek help from other agencies that do. If a person is suspected to have gone missing in areas like wood, lakes, rivers, their home, and deserts, an initial search should be done the same as if they went missing from a plane crash in the ocean, a boat going down in the sea, a person of privilege. Using resources should not be selective. Those resources are created by our tax dollars and should be used to provide quick action to determine why the person went missing.
I want this petition to be upgraded to include the fight for change. My main objective is to get justice for my son Daniel. He's my first priority and my focus. Daniel would agree that I can not ignore what is happening to other families, especially people of color. Just like you all show love and support for my family, I want to make sure that I am for other families. Their pain is just as great as my and my family's pain. So please sign also for this purpose. It's helping more than you know.
I advocate getting the necessary changes needed to ensure that all cases of missing people are treated with the urgency that it deserves.
