Supporters,

We want to share an important update in the case of Bernedine, Ja’Leah, and Jaxton.

A grand jury has officially indicted charges against the driver involved in the January crash. While this is a step forward, the family remains cautious as the case moves forward. [ WALB News ]

James Spann shared:

I’m still trying to process because I don’t want to get my hopes up like with the bond hearing…It still feels like yesterday when I got the worst phone call of my life.” [ James’ Facebook Post ]

Why This Still Matters

While charges have been indicted, the defendant was previously granted bond and released under court-approved conditions, which have allowed her to return to aspects of daily life, including operating a vehicle, while the case proceeds.

For the family, this has been incredibly difficult as they continue to grieve their loss while navigating the legal process.

An indictment is progress—but it does not guarantee justice.

The family continues to call for:

  • No lenient plea deal
  • Accountability for each life lost
  • Sentencing that reflects the magnitude of this tragedy

We need as many signatures as possible… We want justice and accountability for each life that was lost.” - James Spann

Thank you for continuing to stand with the Spann, Lewis, and Davis families. Please keep them in your prayers.
