Rest in Power, Aviwe Gwanya (31)

On 20 October 2025, Aviwe Gwanya was stabbed to death in her home in Finetown, Johannesburg, allegedly by her boyfriend who is also the father of her child.
 It is alleged he forced entry into her home and attacked her in front of their 3-year-old child. Aviwe managed to run for help and was rushed to a clinic, but she succumbed to her severe injuries.

 She leaves behind two children.
 The suspect has now been arrested after disappearing for 10 months,  but has not yet been sentenced.

We, the undersigned, demand:
1. That the case not be delayed — justice must be served without unnecessary postponements.
2. That the accused remain in custody with no bail.
3. That on conviction, the maximum sentence for this femicide be imposed.
4. That trauma counseling and protection be provided for the 3-year-old child who witnessed the attack.
A child should never have to witness their mother being killed. We demand justice for Aviwe.
