My name is Gina Semioli. On October 9, 2015 my sister Anna was a pedestrian and was struck by a pickup truck and left on the side of the road. This person left her to die. She lost a lot of blood and went into cardiac arrest. This day has forever changed my families life. When we arrived at the hospital we were told that Annie was in extremely critical condition. She suffered a severe traumatic brain injury, multiple broken bones, and fractures. She was in the ICU where she underwent 13 surgeries including an emergency crainectomy to remove the right portion of the bone to let the brain swell out. She remained in a coma. We were told she would not make it from all the doctors around us. We held on and still are holding onto hope and prayer. While my sisters life had been forever changed the question was, who hit her? The person who allegedly hit her is Michael Choynowski. He turned himself in 7 days later. This story was on all major new channels. Everyone was on the hunt for who committed this awful crime. Before he turned himself in their was a person who came forward and said he saw a black pickup truck hit her. Well at this point Choynowski was feeling like they might find him so he turned himself in. He is suppose to be an Eagle Scout. If I remember correct isn't a good Eagle Scout someone who should be honest, trust worthy, and law abiding? Not in this case unfortunately. I guess Choynowski didn't earn his honesty and community badges. He also did not have car insurance. It is a law that all drivers must have car insurance on operating vehicles. Again he did not abide by the law set in place to protect all citizens. Due to his irresponsibility and lack of insurance my sister does not get anything from him. She has over a million dollars in hospital bills. My family pays out of pocket for all things the insurance company does not see as being "medically necessary". His actions have caused us financial hardship but most of all he has ripped our hearts right out of us. He has caused so much emotionally pain for my parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He took my beautifully intelligent sister away from us. After 10 months we have finally gone to court to get Annie the Justice she deserves. We now find ourselves again in an emotional battle. Since he is a first time offender he will get a slap on the wrist. He has applied for pre-trial intervention which means he wants probation with no felony on his record. I can not let this happen. He needs to pay for what he did to my sister. He can not go on living his life normally. My sister was two months from graduating college and earning her Accounting degree from Montclair State University. My sister is now in a bed 24 hours a day. She has around the clock nursing care, eats through a feeding tube, has a tracheotomy, and does not walk or talk. How can his penalty be probation?!? Please I ask you from the bottom of my heart to please sign this petition urging Passaic County and the Judge to not let him get away with just probation.
