Update: I received TJ’s medical records …(still waiting on an Autopsy report from the Medical Examiner and the records from the minister of Justice & Solicitor General)
As I’ve been saying from day one TJ was asking repeatedly for help. To see his handwriting and read his words is beyond haunting, heartbreaking, validating, gutt wrenching….the last written request TJ put in was on Jan 1, 2021, (10 days before he died alone in a cell on their watch) his exact words were “ sorry to bug, I know I’m on the wait list but I’ve been here 4 months and soon I’ll be back on the street surrounded by drugs and hopeless addicts. Please let me start my medication I won’t abuse this privilege”
There are several written requests to see a psychiatrist asking for his bipolar medication, several times he told them he was suicidal and needed his medication. He even wrote the name of the med “an antipsychotic called Seroquel” He wrote about wanting to function in society and he was scared to “loose his life”. Repeatedly he told them he was having anxiety and depression. They continually said no to him saying due to not being on the meds in the past 12 months in AB and wrote down in their notes “no signs of mental illness” even though he expressed depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation. He asked them to get his medical records from BC where he was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder and depression with manic episodes but they did not, they continued to ignore him. They also could have seen in AB health records the multiple psychiatric admissions instead they Told him to “follow up with his family dr upon release” and gave him pamphlets � what’s worse they also continued to put him in segregation 23 hrs a day (with no video surveillance)
Also in his medical chart I found they never even processed his request for Suboxone until Jan 5!
I would like to remind you that the new Edmonton remand is a facility where people wait to face charges, & This was the very first time TJ was ever there. He admitted to needing help and wanted to “leave that life behind”
Anyways please feel free to email on TJs behalf to inquire as to why his family still has not received an autopsy report or any answers from the New Edmonton Remand Facility….also inquire as to why this was ever allowed to happen in a “correctional remand facility”
I’ve read online other public fatality inquiries from others who have died at ERC where judges have ordered them to “ get these services in place” and that also it is known to be “ inhumane” to put people in segregation.
