The FELONY level sentencing was upheld!!! Thank you to everyone who signed this petition thereby letting the court know we take animal abuse seriously. I am so grateful to live in a community that prioritizes the well being and recognizes the suffering of our companions. I especially want to express my whole hearted-gratitude to everyone who took the time and effort to show up for court today. It felt so supportive to be in the presence of such an impressive turnout. Having such community vigilance kept the defendant and his attorney from skewing the truth any further, and played a key role in facilitating the felony outcome. Daphne and I were the “Ace in the hole” for the DA’s office. We were primed and ready to take the stand once again, but luckily were not needed this time around. During the sentencing Judge Conger clearly saw right through Mr. McKnights excuses and growing stack of lies. Mr. McKnight committed grievous and permanent harm to Daphne, and now he must face meaningful consequences. Thanks once again to the veterinary hospital employees and SRJC Vet Tech students Darien Smith, Stormie Prosser, and Shelby Reed, without whom we could not have solved this case. Also to Animal Control Officer Justin Foster and both Bill Brockley and Tim Dempsey from the DA’s office for their diligent work on this case. -Dr, Dan Famini p.s. Just letting everyone know that Daphne continues to do well with her new family. While the lack of her back leg will catch up with a high-energy mid-sized dog in time she still has several active, happy years ahead.
