Andrew Suh Advocacy TeamDixon, IL, United States
May 15, 2021

To the many wonderful people who have shown interest in our friend Andrew Suh, we appreciate you – as does Andrew! We update him on the progress of this petition as well as any communications we receive through Facebook, twitter, and the website (FriendsForAndrewSuh.com). Generally speaking, Andrew is doing well.

The most recent activity in Andrew’s advocacy was a submission of a clemency petition in July 2020 which was, unfortunately, denied this past January. Our firm belief is that Andrew was over-sentenced. As such, we continue to explore avenues for sentence reduction and/or clemency. Skillful legal minds are working on next steps.

NBC Dateline will be featuring Andrew and his story sometime relatively soon (likely June, 2021).  They completed the filming a month or so ago.  We will share more once we know more about this.

In other notes, Andrew contracted covid a few months ago. Luckily, he was asymptomatic, however, his cell mate, at the time, passed away from it. These are difficult and devastating experiences for anyone, yet are amplified while being incarcerated. Andrew received his second covid vaccination yesterday (Friday, March 26th). As for his daily routine, Andrew continues to work for the Illinois Correctional Industries. In Dixon (where Andrew is based), the specific industry is eyeglass development and related gear. Positions within the Illinois Correctional Industries are granted to inmates who have an exemplary prison record – as Andrew does. It’s a wonderful testament to Andrew that he's been given this managerial-level position as an inmate leader within Dixon’s eyeglass factory.

Andrew has a mix of friends outside of prison with whom he regularly interacts. As Andrew has been incarcerated for nearly 28 years, he remains committed to healing – in a spiritually holistic way. He deeply regrets his actions in 1993 and takes full responsibility. He is also still trying to unpack the complexities surrounding the critical relationships of his youth. This will likely be a lifelong process.

As a reminder, anyone reading this can be in touch with Andrew directly.  For more info on how to contact him, visit our website: FriendsForAndrewSuh.com.

Thank you for supporting Andrew. It lifts his spirits anytime he hears of others showing interest in him and his story. Please be well and stay safe out there.
