ADOS started this petition to Director of media relations-MSNBC Lori Acio and

We, the Black ADOS community (American Descendants of Slavery), will not allow our lineage to be disrespected by media personalities.

In early February, Joy Ann Reed used her AM Joy news show to present a false narrative about the ADOS community. Ms. Reid and her guest, Shireen Mitchell, asserted that the #ADOS and #DOS hashtags are being used by Russian bots on various online platforms and are not associated with legitimate social media users. Using McCarthyistic tactics to smear our legitimate movement; Mitchell warned AM Joy viewers to dismiss users who utilized those hashtags. Minimal research would show that the hashtags are indeed legitimate and are being used frequently by real people on social media. In fact, those hashtags were created by the thought leaders of the ADOS movement; political commentator Yvette Carnell and attorney Antonio Moore.

The ADOS community has suffered for too long in this country to be discredited and disregarded in this manner. It is disrespectful and disingenuous. We are the pulse and foundation of this country. ADOS built America, our ancestors built America. If we claim to live in a true democracy, all voices should be heard and considered with thoughtful analysis. Joy-Ann Reid and Shireen Mitchell failed in their due diligence to research and report the news with objectivity and therefore presented false information to millions of viewers. In short, they took away a very important voice to the American narrative. Our voice.

A swift correction is in order.

We demand a retraction and apology from Ms. Reid and Ms. Mitchell and an invitation to Yvette Carnell and Antonio Moore to come on AM Joy and present our side of the discussion that was not provided during the original broadcast. Failing to do so puts the journalistic integrity of your network at risk and we will not hesitate to boycott both you and your advertisers. We expect the on-air retraction and apology no later than March 1, 2019. The conclusion of Black History Month.
