Hi Everyone,
Thank you all again for your continued support to try to save Del Puerto Canyon, it's history as a hub for education, and a place for locals to connect with nature and reminders of the Yokuts who once inhabited this place. Right now, proponents of the dams have estimated they may need to raise as much as $900 million for construction, and they have been reaching out to public officials for help.
To further counter their claims that the canyon is unused space, we've launched a series of customizable postcards: www.delpuertocards.weebly.com with pictures of animals, plants, and other natural features in the canyon and back text summarizing community concerns. Cards will be pre-stamped so you can respectfully write about this issue, sign them, and drop them off at the post office at no cost to you. For those in California, we need your help to continue reaching out to Governor Gavin Newsom, Senator Alex Padilla, and Senator Dianne Feinstein. All have continued to speak favorably about the reservoir due to backers' promised benefits for commercial ag. We need to continue to let them know what would be lost for education and cultural history.
Thank you.
