Hello Everyone,

In the version of the developers' EIR that's currently the subject of a joint lawsuit by the Sierra Club, FOR, and CBD, impacts on Del Puerto Canyon's history as a place for research and education are barely mentioned.  With the hearing for the lawsuit coming up, it seemed appropriate to share an article with more detailed, first-hand accounts of this chapter of DPC's history to raise public awareness.

Before I heard about the proposed dams, I was working on an article about this aspect of Del Puerto Canyon.  As I encountered both positive and negative stories during my interviews, I struggled to balance concerns about changing demographics and community social structures, conservation issues, and the area's history of agriculture, hunting, and OHV use.  I also tried to explore possible solutions for tensions around recreation and agriculture in the area.  I would have liked to cover some more perspectives and cover some topics more deeply.  But as I said before, I wanted to get this out before this summer, and some potential publishers were already having issues with the length.

All quotes were run by interviewees prior to publication.  As long as attribution to the author is included, please feel free to share or use this as a reference for other works or projects.

Thank you.
