Are cash users paying for Afterpay Day?

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission says that 1 in 5 Buy Now Pay Later debtors are missing payments and some going without essentials such as food

Now "Afterpay Day" (17-20 March) is encouraging (mostly young) consumers to choose debt instead of paying up-front for stuff they probably don't need....

The prizes and discounts for Buy Now Pay Later purchases are not available for people who use cash, debt cards or credit cards to pay for their shopping. But retailers are banned from charging fees for the Afterpay service which costs them 4 per cent (or more) on each purchase.

So are all consumers paying for the prizes and discounts being offered by Afterpay this week?

Are we all paying this company to entice our young people to go into debt?

You can even Afterpay your shout at the pub, your Uber Eats, your DoorDash takeaway food...

At least credit cards charge the consumer and the merchant can surcharge the card user, saving cash users the expense of subsidising their service. What is going on with Afterpay?

We are asking government and the RBA to take action and regulate this industry like other credit providers are regulated.

We are talking to the media about warning young people that debt is debt no matter what it's called these days.

Afterpay and other companies are Buy Now Pay Later companies are the new loan sharks - but unlike the old payday lenders, we all seem to be paying them to put young people into debt....

Please support us to keep this campaign going. Just a few dollars will help us fight the cashless society and stand up for our rights to choose how we pay...
