Commonwealth Bank left it's customers stranded without access to their accounts or payments for up to six hours on Sunday 12th September. This was CBA's 33rd 'system outage' this year.
St George Bank apologised for a shocking computer malfunction last week that left thousands of customers seeing a ZERO dollar bank balance when they logged in or tried to make a payment.
These are just the most recent bank fails that leave consumers and businesses stranded without the ability to buy essential goods and services.
And when shops and businesses don't accept cash, they are completely vulnerable to disruptions caused by computer problems, storms, power blackouts and internet blackspots.
Cash is not just our legal tender and the trusted way to pay for millions of Australians, it is also the most reliable form of payment.
Cash has not been linked to any COVID-19 transmission events and experts say you don't need to worry about spreading coronavirus with cash.
Cash is also private. Your purchase and transaction information is not collected by online marketing companies when you pay with notes and coins. No one can question your spending when you use cash instead of a card or phone to pay instore.
Australians have a right to choose how we pay for goods and services but some shops are going cashless. This weakens the economy and excludes millions of people.
Australia needs laws to protect our right to choose to pay with cash if we prefer.
Please share our petition to ensure the government hears our voice. Thousands of people are signing every week but we need more to sign up so we can't be ignored.
