Public Bus Transport Should Not Carry Standing Passengers During Long Trips

Public transport is a shared passenger-transport or public utility service which is available for use by the general public. It is also called public transit, or mass transit. Transport services use buses on conventional roads to carry numerous passengers on shorter journeys. We are concerned about public buses that has over limit the number of passengers in the bus. Due to the population increase caused by urbanization in the country, many commuters would endure standing in a bus in order to go to their destination as fast as possible.
The concept of filling up a public transport bus with both seated and standing passengers might not be new to a community that have been making use of bus as mode of transportation for a long time.. In urban public transport, provision is made for standing passengers, often called straphangers or standees, to rationalize operation and to provide extra capacity during rush hour. We all know that bus is a fast, cheap, and economical mode of public transport. We chose to stand on bus for that reason. But standing passenger on the bus should be banned, especially to those public provincial buses that has a travel time of more than 2 hours. Traffic jam causes longer travel time means longer time to stand in the bus. As a passenger, it was so hard to stand up for about 3 hours from home to my destination. Being a standing passenger is truly very risky and dangerous. It is important to prohibit bus services to carry standing passengers during long trips to avoid possible injuries in times of accidents. Every passenger deserves to feel comfortable and safe while they are riding in a public transport especially in buses. Standing passengers are susceptible to suffering falls and other injuries, particularly elderly people. Shorter people and children may not be able to reach ceiling-mounted handles, straps, or rails.
We are writing this statement to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) to petition that standing passengers in bus public transport should be prohibited they shouldn’t be allowed to enter tollways such as North-Luzon Expressway (NLEX), South-Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEx), Skyway, and all other toll facilities in the Philippines if they carry straphangers or standees. With this letter, I hope these two agencies will do an action to stop carrying standing passengers on the bus during long trips. Safety of the passenger is much more important than anything. I, the undersigned, therefore suggest and call all the bus companies in the Philippines to replace their current bus model and change their service specification from single decker to double-decker buses to increase the capacity of each vehicle travelling along the route. I am proposing this service to provide a safe and fast way to travel that people can trust instead of relying on strangers who offer carpooling and ridesharing. The main objective of this petition is for the passengers to feel comfortable and convenient along the way.
This petition is really important for the safety and convenience of the people. Is riding a bus with people standing up safe? If anything happens, does the bus company would compensate them? These questions would really come to mind to the citizens and the passengers who are concerned. We know that all of the people have to get to their destinations as fast as they could be, but being safe and sound is more important.. Standing needs to be illegal on all public bus transport who travel a long distance. We urge you to recommend the changes necessary to provide them with the opportunity to feel comfortable while commuting. It is our sincere hope that the government acts accordingly as a way of looking after all its commuting citizens.
