The Mountain West Conference, hands down, has the greatest variety of colorful rivalry trophies, each of which comes with a history to match the acrimony between various teams in the conference. Whether it's the Fremont Cannon or Bridger's Rifle, the Paniolo Trophy or the Old Can, it's clear that every program has its points of pride and the Golden Screwdriver should have a place in that pantheon.

The origin story seems to get more apocryphal by the year, which only increases the merit of the Screwdriver's existence. On behalf of college football fans in Fresno, Honolulu and across the nation, I'd like both Fresno State and the University of Hawaii to take steps to recognize the Golden Screwdriver as an official rivalry trophy.
