On 06/18/2020 The Providence City Council made their second vote, approving the establishment of the Committee to Review Commemorative Works.

The committee will be formed by the Providence Arts, Culture and Tourism department. It will take in petitions from Providence residents to review monuments and Commemorative works, however it will be advisory only. This committee will be advising the Board of Parks Commissioners who will make the final decisions. This Board, is compromised of only two city members, Nicholas Narducci of Ward 4, and John Igliozzi Ward 7.

It is unacceptable that two city council members will be deciding the fate of all monuments and Commemorative works. Contact Councilmen Narducci and Igliozzi and demand that they commit to removing the Columbus statue in Providence.

Meanwhile, our neighbors in Connecticut and Massachusetts have removed their Columbus statues in New London and Boston via the Mayor's executive order. Mayor Elorza could issue his own executive order as well, but has not. Contact Elorza and demand that he immediately sign an executive order to take down the statue. Let him know why it must be removed now, why we can not wait for more weeks, months and years for the issue to move through the bureaucratic red tape just so two older Italian men can decide it's fate.
