Three Hibakusha, survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, set sail from Japan onboard Peace Boat on April 12 for a 105 day global voyage. Joined by two second generation Hibakusha and two youth communicators, the delegation will visit 22 countries over the next three months, giving their testimony of the humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons and gathering support from people around the world for the Hibakusha Appeal. Since departure the Hibakusha have already visited Singapore and Sri Lanka, and are continuing on to Europe, the United States, Latin America and the Pacific over the coming months. They will share their personal testimonies and call for nuclear abolition with policy makers and members of the public, including in the nuclear weapon states of France, Russia and the United States. This journey takes place at a historic moment, as states around the world are working to create a treaty at the United Nations to ban nuclear weapons. The Hibakusha will be present at these negotiations, sharing their urgent appeal to ensure noone will have to suffer as they have. Please follow their journey around the world online, and support their efforts through encouraging friends and family to sign the Hibakusha Appeal now. Join your voice with those of the Hibakusha to say “Never Again.” Ban nuclear weapons!
