The first experience and direct observation of some of us Iranians of an extremely intense war in recent decades was during Iraq’s invasion of Iran in the city of Muhammerah (Khorramshahr), where our community endured the devastations of war. These painful past experiences resurfaced during the intense 12-day Israeli attack on Iran. When some of us, as researchers, were present in the streets of Tehran several months ago as volunteer aid workers, we witnessed firsthand the atrocities and killing of civilians under a media blackout. Both experiences served to focus our attention in Iran on the urgent need for global action to protect innocent lives in wars.

 Many in the global scientific community recognize the necessity of supporting the Al-Samoud Fleet, a voice that brings together independent academics and researchers from around the world in solidarity with Gaza and in calling for the breaking of its unjust siege. We are part of an independent research community that interacts with the world through various scientific platforms for knowledge exchange. We understand that science, independent from governments, has a powerful voice that can be influential and drive change.
