Dear friends,
For once, I have some positive news. After you sent thousands of messages to the UN diplomatic missions late last week, and after days of intense negotiations, the UN Security Council has passed a resolution calling for a 30-day cessation of hostilities in Syria.
Your messages undoubtedly increased the pressure on the UN Security Council to do the right thing for Syrians. I can't thank you enough.
Now, all eyes are on Russia as we watch to see if they'll stand by the vote and keep the Syrian regime from violating the ceasefire. As I send this update, my colleagues in Syria are still suffering. The passing of the resolution hasn't yet made the bombs stop falling from the skies and just this weekend a suspected chlorine gas attack was carried out in Ghouta. Clearly, our fight isn't over yet.
That's why it's so important for the world to keep their eyes, and their pressure, on Vladimir Putin in the coming days. So I'm asking you to share this piece from the Guardian, challenging Russia to stand by their commitment to get aid in and stop the bombs falling in Syria. Click here to share it on Twitter: http://bit.ly/2EWYSXr
Thank you, again, for everything you have done so far for Syria. Let's make sure all the hard work pays off,
Dr Hamza.
