Canada's new Minister of Seniors, the Hon. Filomena Tassi, posted her mandate letter from Prime Minister Trudeau yesterday. This document is vital to understanding her ministry's role in supporting seniors and -- from our perspective -- their caregivers. It is also critical to monitoring and assessing the government's promise to:
1) support healthy aging for seniors and their families;
2) promote programs for seniors and protecting seniors from abuse;
3) improve financial security for the neediest Canadians and seniors through a Seniors Price Index;
4) coordinate and ensure adequate investments in community, palliative, and home care;
5) meet seniors' housing needs through Canada's National Housing Strategy;
6) represent the federal government in a Seniors Forum that involves the provinces and territories;
7) support health and finance ministers' efforts to implement National Pharmacare.
A meeting has been requested with Minister Tassi to convey the concerns of this petition's 32,000 followers. We want to support her in promoting healthy aging for seniors and their caregivers, and to urge the prompt development of a strategy for Canada's aging population through the Seniors Forum.
As soon as the meeting is arranged an update will be posted. Meanwhile, supporters are encouraged to keep sharing this petition and its promotional video to keep expanding grassroots support for family caregivers. Here, again, are the links to share with others:
