I'll cut to the chase: the awesome new action series The Player starring Philip Winchester and Wesley Snipes has had its order cut to 9 episodes by NBC following reduced ratings and is now in danger of being cancelled. So now I'll state my case. The Player is a breath of fresh air in a realm of television that is dominated by shallow reality programming with absolutely no substance or intelligence. Quality shows with engaging plot lines, likeable characters and top notch entertainment values are a dying breed, and The Player is one of the very few broadcasts that is keeping this quality alive. Ratings for The Player have dwindled due to being scheduled against the likes of Thursday night NFL Football and hot ABC favourite How To Get Away With Murder, and truth be told, any freshman series would struggle greatly against an already well established hit show and the most watched sport in television history week after week. The late 9:30 (and now 10:30) timeslot doesn't help matters either. I'm calling on all lovers of The Player, sign this petition right now and let's show creators John Rogers and John Fox that there is more than enough love for their show so they can take it to the executives of NBC and get it renewed for at least a full season. Please NBC, don't let this awesome gem of a show slip through your fingers, quality like this rarely comes along these days.
