Ban the chaining or tethering of dogs throughout Ohio
Ban the chaining or tethering of dogs throughout Ohio
The Issue
Dear Ohio citizens and law makers,
It's a growing epidemic for dogs to be tethered or chained for most, if not all of their lives. This happens regardless of the weather. In the month of January alone, there have been several deaths due to exposure to the elements. Although there are situations where chaining a dog is appropriate and does not violate their freedom, there are too many who use this irresponsibly. In too many circumstances these dogs are left without food or water and inadequate shelter.
There should be a law instated that protects these dogs from enduring this unfair treatment. We would like to propose a thirteen hour limit to the chaining of one's pet. We feel that amount of time is more than enough for those who have work schedules or other obligations that prevent them from being home.
This law is not to restrict responsible pet parents, but to strengthen the laws to protect companion animals. There are currently 13 states that prohibit continuous chaining of dogs. Let's make Ohio number 14!
