Raise the minimum forward facing requirements to 2 years

Did you know children who are rear facing are 5 times safer than those who are forward facing in a collision? “The C3 vertebrae of a child’s spinal column doesn’t complete ossification until an average age of 3. If forward facing in a crash, this leaves him vulnerable to a severe spinal injury” (www.csftl.org) Our law covers the bare minimum for safety and many parents don’t know about the benefits to rear facing longer which leads them to count on the law to save their children. “At just 32mph this pressure on a child’s neck in a forward facing car seat during a collision can equal to the weight of 3 average adult men” (Nordic Traffic Medicine Association). More and more states are changing their laws to minimum 2 years and I think our province deserves the same safety laws to further protect our precious babies.
