Stricter Regulations on Agriculture Runoff into the Salinas River in Salinas, Ca

The Issue

Agriculture runoff from Salinas, Ca is collected by the Salinas River and empties directly into the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, which is one of the most diverse aquatic ecosystems in our country. This effects marine ecosystems as well as the ecosystems that run along the Salinas River. Excess nitrates and phosphates, the two main substances found in crop fertilizers, cause algal blooms that kill off vast amounts of fish and other marine species because it decreases the amount of oxygen in the water. We need these farms to abide by the proper EPA standards for waterways leading to the ocean. These regulations are being ignored! We're sending this petition to the mayor of Salinas, Ca, Joe Gunter. Please sign this petition and help save our oceans and waterways!
