After a brief email from Rep. McMillan saying he would have it looked into but it was to late for legislation in his term. I received the following email. Claire, Rep. McMillan forwarded me your email regarding SMA screening and testing for newborns in Alabama, and we’ve been working with the Alabama Department of Health to try to get some answers for you. I’m happy to get to tell you that SMA is one of four diseases that will be requested to be added to the screening list at its next update. That process is already in the works, and our office would be happy to keep you up-to-date on where we are in that process as it moves forward.
