The Dakota Access Pipeline has been carrying oil for 3 years, but last week a district judge ordered a new environmental review of the project. Judge Boasberg found that the government failed to properly investigate the risks of an oil spill and how such a leak would be detected. The pipeline’s “effects on the quality of the human environment are likely to be highly controversial,” ruled the judge.
He ordered the Army Corps of Engineers to complete a more thorough environmental impact statement, in a major win for the movement to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline and protect the people living in Standing Rock.
