Stop government over-reach in Auburn State Recreational Area

This petition is to oppose the unilateral decision to ban gold panning, sluicing and metal detecting in the Auburn State Recreational Area.  An area rich with history of gold mining and a major contributor to the local economy of the area.  The Gold Fields District Superintendent changed the rules without public input.  They have effectively banned metal detecting, running a sluice box for gold and even using a small hand trowel to dig for gold in areas which flood every year.  While this type of "no-impact" activity has been allowed since the creation of the park area, one single person is now deeming himself to be the only decision maker and is closing these activities from the public whom he is supposed to represent.  These parks are public lands, meaning the public is supposed to determine its use.

Tens of thousands of prospectors, local residents, gold clubs, associations and weekenders use this park system and love to search for little specs of gold.  For a single person to unilaterally declare all activities are now off limits is unacceptable.

We urge you to sign this petition to allow panning, sluicing and metal detecting in this park.
