Put an end to Jimmy Kimmel's emotionally abusive Halloween prank on children!
The Issue
There is a well-known prank, called "I Told My Kids I Ate All Their Halloween Candy", Jimmy Kimmel plays it annually in ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live! and whoever is not familiar with it, can watch the newest one here:
The show encourages parents to provoke extreme emotional reactions from their children, by hiding their candy and telling them a lie that they ate all of it. This is not just a "joke" it's a clear violation of trust, it is emotional abuse and last, but not the least: public humiliation.
This article also points out that it's a form of bullying. It was written about five years ago, and the "joke" is still on. I guess it's time to take action. Telling children lies to make them cry and throw tantrums (not to mention recording this and sharing it with the public without their consent) shows problems with the adults and not the children. It is abusive behavior and should not be encouraged, especially not by a tv talk show, that so many people find entertaining.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! is not a program that should be terminated upon such things, but we want Jimmy Kimmel and whoever athorized this from ABC to both issue an apologie to all the children involved in this specific kind of prank and agree to never make / air content like this again. "Sorry kids" while smiling and getting clapped for showing these videos does not qualify as an honest gesture!
