Save wild green site at Lonan Drive, Oban from proposed residential development.

The Issue

URGENT ACTION REQUESTED updated Monday, 11th February 2019:

Once again & in less than a year since the last application was declined TSL Ltd have RENEWED interest in redeveloping a wild green space for residential purpose.  Over 340 people objected to this, yet here we are once more defending precious natural habitat.

Support objection to TSL Ltd's persistence & latest application, for planning in principal, for proposed residential development of the natural environment for flora & fauna.

Their application, ref: 18/02720/PPP would make a detrimental impact on many grounds.

Traffic congestion on the south side of Oban is already at unmanageable levels & already faces new development at the opposite end of Lonan Drive, which had encompassed a natural watercourse environment for flora & fauna BUT OVER THE WINTER SEASON WAS LOST TO APPROVED & ONGOING RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT.

The many publicly raised concerns, akin to "... these development proposals which are completely inappropriate for the site and which carry serious detrimental consequences which remain unresolved since earlier proposals were withdrawn ...", are amongst the following & in no particular order:

  1. "The site is entirely unsuitable for the proposed development as it is an important recreational area which is NOT designated in the current Local Plan for development.  The area is the only open land proximal to the Soroba settlements and is used heavily for public recreation and quiet enjoyment for local residents. High density social housing development is entirely incompatible with that primary function.";
  2. "The additional residency in that location will certainly exacerbate an already horrendous road traffic congestion problem around the south of the town where overdevelopment in Glenshellach and in the Soroba area is regularly bringing gridlock during peak periods and presenting massive transit difficulties for commuters and parents conveying children to school.  Any further traffic feeding into an already congested and hazardous corridor on the south of the town will be completely irresponsible and intolerable for existing users and visitors to the town.";
  3. "The access into the development site is completely inadequate and insufficient to give safe access and egress to existing residents and for the proposed occupiers on the new houses.";
  4. "The area has widespread and long standing contamination with Japanese Knotweed due to irresponsible mismanagement and neglect by the landowners and in such circumstances development of the land is illegal until this has been brought under permanent control.";
  5. "Increased flooding [& burst pipes affecting existing residence of Lonan Drive in less than 5 years] in Oban is directly related to over development in Glenshellach and in Upper Soroba and any further building in this location will exacerbate flooding.";
  6. "The existing sewerage infrastructure in Oban is completely incapable of accepting further domestic input without major upgrading to avoid illegal discharges."; &
  7. "The area is used by many residents, and is an important [naturally wild] habitat for [flora & fauna including] deer, red squirrels, bats & butterflies, to name a few.".

Please help stop this plan now (AGAIN).
