NASCAR reinstate Jeremy Mayfield

NASCAR reinstate Jeremy Mayfield
The Issue
Reinstate Jeremy Mayfield, so he can compete at NASCAR sanctioned events and tracks! It's the right thing to do.
Driver Jeremy Mayfield was suspended indefinitely from NASCAR competition in May 2009. If you have followed NASCAR before this time, you have heard some of the story, but have you heard the whole story?
In 2006 Mayfield was released by Ray Evernham Motorsports for what Evernham stated were "false" comments. Mayfield accused Evernham of not being with the team much because he was more focused on his development driver Ms. Erin Crocker. Mayfield stated Evernham and Crocker had a "close personal relationship" Evernham later admitted to the affair and the two married in 2009.
In May 2009 NASCAR suspended Mayfield for supposedly testing positive for what they called a "drug of concern" However, NASCAR officials and Dr. David Black (his company was in charge of the drug testing policy) refused to specify what Mayfield had tested positive for. Mayfield stated he had a prescription for Adderall to assist with his attention deficit disorder, and he had taken two tablets of Claritin-D, which is an OTC medicine. First NASCAR notified Mayfield that he had tested positive for amphetamine, which was no surprise to Mayfield, as he reported his use of Adderall per rules to Dr. Black. It wasn't until the Mayfield's decided to fight back against these allegations that NASCAR eventually stated Mayfield had a large amount of methamphetamine in his system. Jeremy Mayfield and all who know him denied these allegations by NASCAR.
Mayfield was re-tested by NASCAR but only Dr. Black was used once again, questioning the validity of the test and results. Again NASCAR said Mayfield had tested positive for methamphetamine. However, what makes this strange is Mayfield went to have a test done at a certified drug testing laboratory only 40 minutes after the test administered by NASCAR and Dr. Black. This lab was not affiliated with NASCAR and the results of that test were negative. Many doctors have come forward saying that if Jeremy had the amount of methamphetamine that NASCAR said he had in his system, he would be dead.
Jeremy Mayfield has stated many times he will submit to any testing as long as it is administered by a certified lab that is not affiliated with NASCAR. Furthermore, NASCAR refused any type of confirmatory testing such as hair, to prove without a doubt whether or not Mayfield had methamphetamine in his system. It is also worth noting that during this time that Claritin was a corporate sponsor in NASCAR. The concern NASCAR had was purely based on the money from Claritin sponsorship dollars. They did not want to release information that an OTC medicine can cause a false positive, which has been proven many times. Many drug testing companies have come out and said "testing is presumptive in nature and should be followed by CONFIRMATORY TESTING" Mayfield was never offered confirmatory testing.
Jeremy Mayfield and his wife have brought several things to light during this fight to take back their reputation. The Evernham affair, the drug testing cover-up, and other people within NASCAR abusing drugs (non prescribed) and alcohol. All three main points that the Mayfield's stood up and fought for have been proven true before our very eyes. When NASCAR CEO Brian France was arrested and charged with DWI and possession of non-prescribed drugs, Jeremy Mayfield took no advantage of this news. He found no happiness from it, never said "I told you so" He simply said "God can do more in 5 minutes than we can do in a lifetime" He felt bad for Brian France and whatever struggle he had. There was no sense of closure in this downfall of the man in charge of the organization that "blacklisted" him.
There are many things that have happened to Jeremy Mayfield and his wife, and all of it stinks of corruption and people trying to destroy a man who stood up and defended himself. Like any whistleblower, he was thrown to the wolves, vilified in the media, and all in NASCAR had to turn their back on him out of fear for their own careers. No, I am not a personal friend of Jeremy Mayfield, I am simply a man who had been accused of something in my own past and I took a stand. I know what I had to go through, the money spent fighting for your name, the embarrassment of things being public even though you are innocent and you risk it all to prove yourself, just as the Mayfield's did.
It is time for NASCAR to right a horrible injustice. Apologies aren't necessary, they fix nothing. It has taken many years of fighting, heart break, and tears for the Mayfield story to finally play out. It is time to reinstate Jeremy Mayfield in NASCAR so he may compete wherever he can, while he can.
If there is nothing else I can say to get you to understand the real story, or change your mind, let me leave you with this. As a fan of racing and NASCAR, we all do two things that you never see anywhere else. We stand for the National Anthem, and we pray to God. A gracious, loving, and forgiving God. If God can forgive anyone for anything, why can't you? Why can't NASCAR? Please show your support to Jeremy & Shana Mayfield by adding your name to this petition, and sharing it with everyone you know. NASCAR just may keep listening to their fans, and Jeremy and Shana will see the love and support from the great racing community.
