Working toward a greener, cleaner air in Niagara Falls

The Issue

Our key concerns are:
Healthcare costs
Particulates and toxins in the air.
A hundred backyard fires is the same as a smokey factory chimney.  We don’t let factories pollute the air. Why do we allow backyard fires?
Reduce Your Carbon Footprint - Stop carbon ( wood ) burning  -  Help Save the Environment.

Our council has been presented with pages of documentation supporting the health risk caused by backyard fires. They were presented with personal stories of how smoke in the air affects us all, and individually. People have been sent to hospital due to the toxins emitted from fire. We have restricted smoking, due to its harmful health to others. We have banned peanuts from our school, in the chance that one peanut could harm a child. And yet, they would allow an urban area with little space between properties to openly burn wood.

The City of Port Colbourne has recently passed, unanimously, a bylaw preventing open air burning in thier city. The decision was based on "the health and safety" of it's constituents. Niagara Falls Council needs to realize that the same unhealthy toxins exist in Niagara Falls, toxins do not pick and choose a city in which to reside.
