Stop CA Bad Drone Law

I am writing today in strong opposition to SB 142, as amended on June 30th. While well-intended, SB 142 attempts to address privacy issues by arbitrarily mandating a statutory property right which could lead to litigation for California consumers and companies, hamper emergency response, and thwart a growing and innovative industry which is based largely in California.

There is a large contingent of safe UAV operators that are thriving in this new industry. I believe that we will have more incidents of "shooting at drones" or hassling operators. Although there are some bad apples that use UAV's for neferious purposes, this is true with most new technology.

In order to thrive we need education and training. The responsible drone community believes this law serves to further pigeonhole us as irresponsible, privacy-invading troublemakers.

Knee-jerk laws will not serve anyone. I can't earn a living filming at 350 feet. The magic of the UAV is to let photographers get close to the action; closer and safer than an airplane or helicopter.

Please consider the entrepreneur and safe hobbyist, which far outweigh the other operators that choose to fly outside set guidelines.

Thank you,
