Great news: Last Sunday Governor Brown signed Assembly Bill 2785! This was part of a package to protect and support women, children, and families across California. You can learn more at the attached link. What does this mean? Effective January 1, 2019, California State University campuses and community colleges in California will be required to provide adequate time and space to students to nurse or pump milk for their children. The law recommends University of California campuses follow suit. This means at least one private and secure room - that is not a bathroom - with an electrical outlet, comfortable chair, and place to put a pump will be available on every campus. Furthermore, students cannot incur any academic penalty for taking time away from class to nurse or pump milk. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU! We believe all people should be able to nurse or pump milk for their children without jeopardizing their access to higher education, and we are glad you, our state legislators, and our Governor do too.
