Decommission Professional Wrestling in Louisiana

The Issue

As most everyone is aware, professional wrestling is a live-action storytelling stunt show and NOT a true combat sport. It is performed by trained professionals and athletes, yes. But it’s also entirely fictional, in some cases choreographed, and the outcomes are completely predetermined. That being said, it should NOT be held to the same standards, rules, or regulations as boxing or mixed martial arts. Those are actual combat sports, where the intent is to inflict damage to achieve victory. Much like the fights seen in film or on TV, our events are strictly entertainment and our athletes are constantly protecting each other in every performance.

Professional wrestling may be violent, but it’s stylized violence - performance art. Even so, there MUST be certain health and safety regulations in place, for performers and fans alike, no question about that. However, each event promoter should take the responsibility of such regulations and take the appropriate steps to care for the talent they book. Simply put,  the lengths the Louisiana Boxing and Wrestling Commission goes to in order to police professional wrestling is suffocating to our business model and negatively impacts our growth potential.

To be clear, we don’t wish to abolish the Louisiana Boxing and Wrestling Commission. We wish to follow in the model of Texas, Florida, and other successful states where our favorite artform, professional wrestling, is evolving and thriving with no Commission influence whatsoever. Our goal is to remove professional wrestling from their jurisdiction entirely and, like the above mentioned states, allow us to govern ourselves.
