Stop folic acid from being added to our food

Folic acid is a very different substance to the natural B vitamin, folate, and there seems to be extreme confusion. Folic acid is a synthetic form and cannot be broken down and utilised by the body in around 40-60% of the population with a mutation on their MTHFR gene. This puts people at risk for infertility, miscarriages, and babies born with defects. We have seen a rise in tongue tie in babies, which is associated with low folate levels and something needs to be done to educate people about the difference between the two. It is dangerous to add folic acid to food as it can build up in the systems of those who cannot utilise it, which, as mentioned is a high percentage of the population.
