A more developed 'Frequently Asked Questions' post is coming up but I wanted to put up this graphic (from Anthony Nolan) to really show the importance of what we're talking about.
A friend of mine raised the issue of delayed clamping - to be included in more depth in FAQs -but essentially I wanted to say that delayed clamping of the cord (so that the newborn gets more of that blood itself) has been shown to have some benefits and we are in no way arguing that cord blood donation should be mandatory (thus meaning families couldn't practice delayed clamping). What we are asking for is information and options for families to make these choices for themselves.
If you have questions about cord blood donation or wider issues about stem cell donation, please post them below and we'll try to find the answers and include them in the FAQs.
As always, thank you so much for signing and continuing to share (and please make sure you've registered with Anthony Nolan, 18-30, or DKMS, 17-55, to potentially donate stem cells as an adult).
