Small babies, children of all ages, are currently being failed by the family court system which is supposed to be the one national establishment put in place to protect vulnerable minors. Unless a petitioner or a respondent in the family courts can independently afford to cover the costs involved then the court is now powerless to order regular drug testing . As a parent of a minor trying to protect my little one from exposure to the other parents illegal drug use and addictions I sit and wondour how many other minors are being failed by the system?

Every parent has a right to a healthy relationship with their children and more importantly, the children have a right to know both parents and enjoy them. But unfortunately, trying to ensure the circumstances are providing a safe environment for children is a desperate battle for many of us parents. We need assistance from the government to protect minors from drug users and addicts.

My personal experience drives me to try and make a change:

My incredibly young infant is being denied a holistically healthy relationship with his father because the father  is an addict. Because I cannot afford to pay for the father to be reguarly drug tested it means that our infant will be exposed to all sorts of damaging behaviours . This is so unjust. 

Unless the court receives physical evidence regarding drug use claims such as regular testing, children can become exposed to the drug use regardless.

As parents facing this issue , we rely on the hope that a court has the power to order regular access pending regular negative drug test results. Government funding for this procedure to be implemented , as it was years ago, would make the world of difference to vulnerable children. Bring back the Government funded drug tests , please ! 

The psychological damage to a child of any age with an addict parent is hugely damaging. Not only that but when a parental role model takes illegal drugs of any kind, they are letting their children know that its ok to behave as though one is above the law. ......

Between us, let's do what we can to protect our children.
